The Garage - The First Roll-In

Today represents the culmination of months of work and thousands of dollars. It was very gratifying to drive the Lemon and the Lime into the newly renovated garage!! Naturally, Herbie is still outside getting his patina.

Here's a list of the latest things done in the garage:
-all wiring complete
-wall insulation and vapour barrier
-outside pot lights installed
-aluminum soffit and fascia complete
-compressor located to final location and bolted down, self-draining valve installed
-wall braced and hose reel installed
-most items moved to close to their final location
-outer trim cut and routered from spruce 1x4, painted (thanks Vee), and installed

Here's a list of what's left to do:
-garage door jamb needs paint on a warm day
-garage door weather stripping needs to be purchased and installed
-trim needs to be caulked on a warm day
-ceiling needs to eventually be insulated (not this year)
-second workbench needs assembly
-both workbenches need levelling

Herbie Rides Again!

Well, we got the "bug" again... Literally. This one is a '65. It showed up in the Super Shopper - www.supershopper.com, listed in Warminster. I made the call and found out it was located at Durham Road 23 (Lakeridge Road) and Highway 7. I've been passing this bug on my way to work every day for over a year!!!

I made arrangements to see the bug and quickly knew that we had to have it. It is a California car, never registered in Ontario and it is obvious. It is wearing almost all original paint. The heater channels and lower body extremities are absolutely solid. It has typical battery rot in the passenger side floor but is otherwise perfectly solid. It also has a crank back sunroof, pop-out windows, and the original 6V Sapphire radio. These options alone are worth more than I paid for the bug!

Our plan is to keep this one original - patched where necessary and stabilized - but original, as you see it. We also want to give it the "junkyard Herbie look" - something like you see in the last photo above.

Stay tuned for updates!

Update.

As you can see the roof is finished. The new fence is installed. The driveway was pressure-washed for 2 hours today. The Lemon is now back on the driveway. The bushes and trees have been clipped. The front of the house has been pressure-washed.

The outside of the garage still needs fascia, soffit, and trim. The inside needs electrical, insulation, and a clean-up.

This is my sixth attempt to post these pictures, hence the small amount of copy.
